Stefania Villa

The former Kálmán Villa is a neo-baroque residence architecture typical of the 1920s, and also the residence of Kozma

One of the surviving pieces of Lajos's early works, from the so-called "Kozma Baroque" period. The three-story, mansard-roofed residential building was built in one of the most spectacularly developing parts of Zugló in the 1890s, on today's Stefánia Street, right opposite the Art Nouveau building of the Geological Institute.

In the 1920s, Sándor Kálmán and his wife, Elza Blum, asked the architect Lajos Kozma, who was already famous by then, to prepare the plans for their future villa. Kozma drew book decorations, designed furniture, textiles and interiors, so his villas were also works of art. Although only built-in parts of the original interior have survived, the building still reflects the architectural intentions that created it. The 102-year-old villa building is being reborn as a diplomatic residence with a restored interior, renovated facades, modern engineering and a comprehensive garden design.
